CHRIST OUR ADVOCATE | 1 JOHN 2:1-6

WEDNESDAY | NOVEMBER 18, 2020
John is writing this letter close to the end of his life expressing his love and concern for the church. He is explaining that true believers have a helper [advocate] to keep them from sinning, and to provide forgiveness for when we do stumble.
Also read 1 John 1:5-10
*Explain the spiritual meaning of light and darkness
*If a person has a relationship [born again-2 Corinthians 5:17, John 3:3] – How is the fellowship with God broken or made
    distant?
*In 1 John 1:9 what is the meaning of the verse to the Believer? How does this restore fellowship with God?
Spend time today in prayer asking the Lord to reveal anything in your life that is hindering your fellowship with the Lord.
Pray for forgiveness & cleansing-renewing a deeper fellowship with the Lord.

CHRIST OUR ADVOCATE | 1 JOHN 2:1-6
THURSDAY | NOVEMBER 19, 2020
*John writes in verse one that we have an advocate [attorney] who pleads our case before the Father-He is Jesus Christ.
What does that mean for the Believer? How do you personally feel knowing Jesus Christ is standing up for you-in spite of your
   sins and disobedience?
*John also says-“…He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly Righteous– what does this mean? Describe the character of Christ!
Jesus Christ-He alone has the right to stand before God. In God’s presence as our Advocate or Attorney representing us.
*John writes in verse two- “He is the propitiation for our sins, “- the sacrifice for our sin.”
Spend time thinking about what this truly means to you- your past-present-and future.
Why would the Father give His Son as a sacrifice for us? Spend time today in prayer thanking the Lord for what He has done for you-realize the price that was paid for your salvation.
Also pray that you will never take this for granted and that your fellowship with the Lord will continually increase- that your life will bring glory to the Lord.

FRIDAY | CHRIST OUR ADVOCATE | NOVEMBER 20,2020 | 1 JOHN 2:1-6
*Verses 1 and 2 tell us Jesus Christ is our Advocate/Helper and the Sacrifice for our sins.
*Verse 3 is the TEST for genuine salvation
What is the proof of our relationship and fellowship with the Lord?
There are 3 motives for obedience:
   1] Because we have to.—Example: a slave
2] Because we need to.—Example: employee
3] Because we want to.—Example: Christian
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15
*The word “know” is used four times in verses 3 through 6. This is assurance for the true Believer who is striving
to live in obedience for the Lord out of love.
*In verse 4 John writes that those who say they know Him, but do not obey His commandments are “liars.” He is
speaking of those who continually live in disobedience and have never given their lives to the Lord-lying about
    their relationship with the Lord.
Spend time today praying that you will continually grow in your fellowship with the Lord-realizing to “know” Him more requires time with Him! [prayer, the Word, Bible Studies, Worship]

SATURDAY | CHRIST OUR ADVOCATE | NOVEMBER 21, 2020
*In verse 5 John writes that: “But whoever keeps His word, in him truly. the love of God is perfected.
*The Word keeps means to treasure and guard.
How much do you treasure and guard the Word of God in your life-your heart?
*The word perfected means to mature.
Describe a person maturing in the love of God. Is this your heart’s desire?
*John closes in verse 6 stating that if a person says he “Abides in Him” [Jesus Christ]- He should be walking / living the same
way as Christ. Is your desire to walk with Christ? To pattern your life after Him?
We are to be intentional in growing in Christ! Becoming more Christlike! Giving Him ALL of our heart!
…Leaving you an example , so that you might follow [walk] in His steps. 1 Peter 2:21
The Test-are you obedient- keeping His commandments.
Spend time today that you will have the desire in your heart to grow in Christ-to follow in His steps-to obey out of love for your
 Savior!
Also pray for Wes May as he preaches tomorrow at 1am on 1 John 2:7-11.
