A LIVING HOPE: The Irresistible Beauty of a Godly Wife 1 Peter 3:1-6

TUESDAY 5/5/20  Read 1 Peter 3:1-6

Why is the word “submission” so offensive or difficult for the wife to accept in marriage in today’s culture?

What misconceptions does the secular world (sometimes in the church) have towards submission?

The first word in verse 1 is “likewise” (ESV)……what does this mean?

It’s important we realize that two thousand years ago the husband had absolute control over his wife and children.  Many women had become new followers of Christ and had a new identity (Galatians 3:28, 2 Corinthians 5:7) and a new found freedom in Christ.  Peter is writing to them the importance of godly submission and how they are to live with their non-believing husbands – possibly being the instruments God uses to bring them to Christ.

Last week we studied about submission to the government, slaves to masters (employees to employers), and this week is about submission in marriage.

Read Ephesians 5:22-25 to better understand God’s plan of submission in the christian marriage.  What is this passage telling the wife?  The husband?

Spend time praying for your marriage and the marriages in our church.

Wednesday 5/6/20  1 Peter 3:1-6

In verses 1 through 6 Peter writes about three characteristics of the godly wife:
Actions—–Attitude—–Admiration

In verses 1 and 2 it speaks of a wife’s actions in the marriage.

What is the meaning of these two verses?

Describe the actions/conduct of a christian wife who is struggling with submission.  What impact could this have?

Describe the actions/conduct of a christian wife who is respectful and pure in their conduct.  What impact could this have?

THURSDAY 5/7/20  1 Peter 3:1-6

In verses 3 and 4 it speaks of a wife’s external appearance – comparing it to the importance of what’s on the inside – character.  Peter is not saying the appearance is not important; however, the heart is what really matters.

Glamour fades!  True beauty from the heart grows over the years!

Read Galatians 5:22-23 (the Fruit of the Spirit).  Think about the importance of these characteristics.  How could they impact a non-believing mate?

Describe the attitude of a “gentle and quiet spirit” which in God’s sight is very precious.

Pray for your attitude in your marriage.  Ask the Lord to reveal to you what might need to change.

FRIDAY 5/8/20  1 Peter 3?1-6

In verses 5 and 6 it speaks of the importance of godly role models – admiration – encouragement.

List secular role models or influence from the world that disturbs or distracts from becoming the godly wife.

Name and describe a godly role model from the scriptures.

Describe a godly role model that has been in your life or maybe even one you have observed from a distance.  Describe their heart – influence – impact – they have had on you.

What difference can an encouraging mate make in your marriage?  One that shows admiration?

Peter is saying to witness to your husband (family) through your:
