A LIVING HOPE – In His Steps “What Would Jesus Do?” 1 Peter 2:13-25

TUESDAY 4/28/20  1 PETER 2:13-15

What do you think of when you hear the word “submission”?  Why?

Why do you think the idea of submission causes so much controversy inside and outside the church today?

In verse 13, why does it say we are to submit?

Why would Peter be writing to the churches (and to us today) to submit to governing authorities, especially in the setting of his time?  (An emperor, Nero, who was one of the worst persecutors of Christians – torturing and killing them)  Read Romans 13:1-7

In verse 15, it says it is the “will of God” for us to do good.  What does Peter say the result of this is?

As a follower of Christ, how important is it to you to obey the words Peter (from God) wrote in verses 13 through 15?

What Would Jesus Do?
How would He respond to the directive of our government officials today in these present circumstances?

WEDNESDAY 4/29/20  1 PETER 2:16-17

“For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.”  1 Peter 2:16

As a believer we have freedom in Christ.  How can this freedom abuse the government institution established by God?

Believers are the servants of God, not the servants of their own ideas and thoughts.  We have no right to break the laws of government unless the laws are directly opposing God and His law.

Verse 17 has four short commands for every follower of Christ.
  • Honor everyone.
  • Love your Christian brothers.
  • Fear God!
  • Respect the King!
Compared to the other three commands, what does “fear God” mean?

As Christians we are to use discernment in our relationship to government.  At times the right thing to do is to set aside our own privileges; however, government authorities do not have absolute say over our lives!  We are not to participate in evil – if you ever have to make a choice, choose God!

What Would Jesus Do?

THURSDAY 4/30/20  1 PETER 2:18-21

Peter writes about how both in the good situations and in the unfair situations we are to have a spirit of submission and respect.  Suffering for doing good brings Glory to God!

Identify a time when you served in a capacity – doing right/good and suffered for it.

“For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you.  He is your example, and you must follow In His Steps.”   1 Peter 2:21

What decision or decisions will you be making today or tomorrow?  Take time and ask yourself What would Jesus do in this situation?
Are you willing to follow in His steps?

****We encourage you to join us tomorrow in 7 Days of Fasting and Prayer for Spiritual Awakening and Revival

The Prayer Focus will be II Chronicles 7:13-15.  Notice there are four things God tells us we must do and three
